When I was a child, I lived in a large house at the highest point of my home city. When
I was very young, every evening at dusk for three
days, I climbed an evergreen tree next to my home, and I wished upon a star.
As I lay cradled in the top most branches near dusk, I watched as my bright new star appeared
directly overhead, and I wished upon it, "Star
light, star bright, first star I see tonight. I wish I may, I wish I might, I wish this wish
would come true tonight. I wish . . I was as Superman!"
On the second night, I sat ready, cradled and held in the top most branches of the evergreen,
as if in a giants hands. I was comfortable and at ease, and I wished, "Star
light, star bright, first star I see tonight. I wish I may, I wish I might, I wish this wish
would come true tonight. I wish . . I was the king of the world!"
On the third evening, I brought a chrome plated flashlight with me; I waited and watched
for my new star, the first and the brightest in the sky, and I saw it appear
overhead, and I wished, "Star light, star bright, first star I see tonight. I wish I may,
I wish I might, I wish this wish would come true tonight. I
wish . . I knew everything!"
